Environmentally friendly, high coverage, simple application: the optimal shopping checklist

When hunting for the appropriate wood finish for garden fencing, wooden flooring or the children’s chest of drawers, countless varieties can be found at the DIY store. With all of these choices, finding the optimal product for your project is not always an easy task. Since not all wood finishes are alike, some important criteria need to be clarified before picking out a can of finish. When it comes to wood finishes, oil-based products are recommended. They deeply penetrate the wood, are easy to apply and highly durable.

But be careful: not all wood finishes with oil written on them are actually based on natural oils. Sometimes water is used as solvent, which roughens the wood surface and requires more experience to achieve the correct application. It is worth having a closer look at the label! This is certainly true for consumers that value the health and safety of their families. Wood finishes should not contain any unnecessary biocides and neither preservatives nor aromatic compounds. During your next visit to the DIY store, it will be helpful to keep a look out for accreditations, like “food safe” (Euro Norm 1186), “safe for humans, animals and plants” and “suitable for children’s toys” (both DIN EN 71.3).

The oil-based wood finishes from Osmo fulfil demanding criteria both in ecological and economical terms and are also available in a wide variety of colours. More advantages of Osmo wood finishes can be found under www.osmo.de or in the current brochures.
